Unrolling a grass mat: a three-meter strip in one motion

The difference between spreading and unrolling is precision. Spreading means estimating and hoping; unrolling means placing it exactly where you want it, in one continuous strip. These mats are 300 centimetres long and 20 centimetres wide, and that size is intentional: a long, narrow strip follows precisely the kind of bare patch that develops in a garden - along a path, where the dog walks, or where a route has been worn through the grass. The set consists of two mats, covering 1.2 m² in total.

The set specifications

• 300 x 20 cm per mat: three metres long, twenty centimetres wide - a strip, not a sheet.
• 2-piece set: two mats of 0.6 m² each, giving you six metres of strip in total or two strips side by side.
• Total area of 1.2 m²: the measurement you use to determine how many sets you need.
• Biodegradable fabric: stays in place and decomposes; you do not need to remove anything later.
• Seeds held in the fabric: no blown-away or picked-up seeds, ensuring even germination.
• For outdoor use, on all garden surfaces: lawns, border edges, and strips of bare soil.

Unrolling it in practice

Start at one end and unroll the strip in one go to prevent creases or overlaps. Loosen the soil underneath with a rake beforehand, then press the mat down lightly - contact with the soil is what allows the seeds to take root. Keep the fabric moist during the first few weeks. If you want to cover a wider area, place the two strips side by side with their edges touching: this creates a strip 40 centimetres wide and 3 metres long. For larger areas, calculate using 1.2 m² per set.
